William Alan (my great-grandfather) was a founder and the first pastor of Livingston's Chapel Church which is located southwest of Cullman, Alabama between Crane Hill and Trade.. He and Margaret are buried in the adjoining cemetery. "Uncle Billy's" epitaph reads "A sinner saved by Grace and died at his post" "Uncle Billy" (as he was affectionately known by everyone) served in the Union Army with his father, Daniel, in Co. G, 1st Regiment of Volunteer Cavalry.

Lula Ophelia (Sharpton) Holland: Luphelia Sharpton, as she was known in childhood and youth, was born Nov. 19, 1934 in Wedowee, Alabama. She is our second child and our only daughter.

Like her two brothers, Luphelia did her schoolwork through high school wherever we lived in the service of pasturing churches and teaching school. She attended such schools as Dowling in Crane Hill, Hayden Elementary School in Hayden, Alabama, Calvary, Collinsville High School in Collinsville, Oklahoma. She graduated with honors from the Collinsville school in 1952. She was salutatorian for her class in high school. From her girlhood on Luphelia has been quite proficient in music, both the vocal and instrumental kinds. Luphelia is blessed with a beautiful alto voice. She was church pianist in the Collinsville Church of the Nazarene the four years that we served there. She was very active in the Nazarene Young People’s Society and in all the youth activities of the church. She and I sang duets in many of our services for years. Her ability to play the accordion was as good as her ability to play the piano. She also plays the electric organ quite well. In high school Luphelia found her work interesting. No subject seemed to be too hard for her.

But she soon realized her special aptitudes for such subjects as cooking, sewing, typing, shorthand and music. She likes all of them and is good in them. She is a fine cook and seamstress. The skills she developed in business in high school and college put her in fine shape for the jobs that she held as an office lady. When she quit college she was working toward a major in business. During our pastorate in the city of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Luphelia held a good position with Capital Abstract. She quit after that to go to college.

She entered Bethany Nazarene College in 1953. After a year there, she did one semester’s work here in the college of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas. Like many young women at that age, Luphelia had met her future companion and had become engagaged to be married at the end of her first year in college. So, in the spring of 1955 she and Thomas H. Holland of Hialeah, Florida were married.

They have two beautiful daughters, Karen and Carmen Holland. Karen is as large as her mother is now. She sings in the "teen choir" in the Western Oaks church in Bethany. The young people enjoy the trips that this choir takes with their director to sing in several churches within and out of the state of Oklahoma. For several years Luphelia has worked as an office lady, stenographer, typist, and bookkeeper, with the State Tax Commission in the Capital Building in Oklahoma City. She has received several raises in her salary since she was employed there. Luphelia and her children are faithful to their church. Karen has been saved and has been united with the church. Luphelia was converted when she was quite young also; they love the Lord and His cause here upon earth. Luphelia is a loving mother to her girls. She loves her Father and Mother, always calling us affectionately "Daddy and Mama." She and her brothers hold each other in the highest esteem. Like her own mother, Luphelia is very tenderhearted and the things of the spirit register with tender appeal to her.
